COMMUNITY FOOTBALL PARTNERSHIP

So, it's now confirmed.  South Rushden JFC and AFC Rushden & Diamonds have joined forces in a Community Football Partnership that both parties are confident will lead to a more enjoyable football experience for all young, and not so young, people in Rushden and the surrounding area.

It's been quite a journey, I started talking with Ralph Burditt, AFC's chairman, back in June, we liked what each other were saying.  Ralph and I had a few more conversations and at the beginning of December Daryl and I sat down with Ralph and fellow members of the AFC committee and talked through the options in more detail.  It soon became obvious that we had so many aims and objectives in common that not to pool our resources would be folly.

From the outset AFC made in clear that they were impressed with what we'd achieved at South Rushden and how they wanted to work with us and not come in, play the big boy and swallow us up

A further meeting between us, Daryl, Martin Coles and myself, and AFC lead to us agreeing in principle to go ahead, this was further cemented when Jon Ward and Mark Hedges from AFC attended our Coaches meeting in January and were able to answer the concerns and queries our coaches had on behalf of the players.  The unanimous verdict was that we should pursue the Community Football Partnership, this was from both sides as Jon and Mark were impressed by the enthusiasm and knowledge of our coaches, we know how good they are, it was nice to see other people recognise it.

The Partnership was formally announced at the AFC R&D Members Forum on 17th January and was well received by the AFC Membership.

The Directors of SRJFC are confident that this is the right thing to do, will give our current players and future players a better footballing experience and also give our older players a sensible route into Under 18 and Men's football.  It will also give more opportunities for the people of Rushden to get involved in football through playing, coaching, refereeing, administrating or supporting.

It's an exciting new chapter in history of South Rushden Junior Football Club.
