20th September 2009 - Dinamo v Spartak

Team: Nathan, Harry, Peter, Callum, Bradley, Jack, Josh, Sean and Ben

First Half

Spartak kicked off and showed their intent by putting Dinamo under pressure immediately. Nathan had his hands on the ball within two minutes and there was a quick foray into the Spartak half. However they were straight back at us and on four minutes a cross found one of their players in the box who scored from close range, 0-1. This then set the scene for the play of the half. Spartak came on strong and were on the attack for most of the half, however, the Dinamo lads worked as a team and managed to contain the attacks. Spartak had a number of shots, but none threatened to further unbalance the game. During the half, Dinamo had the occasional run deep into the Spartak half, and unfortunately nothing came of this. Dinamo’s spirit and resilience showed when under pressure during the half and this is what kept them in the game.

Half Time score 0-1.

Second Half

It really was a game of two halves. This time, Dinamo kicked off and took the game straight to Spartak. Within two minutes Josh’s efforts found him in space on the edge of the box and he calmly placed the ball into the top right corner of the net making it 1-1. This spurred the boys on and most of the second half was spent deep in the Spartak’s half, with several good efforts on goal without success. Spartak’s occasional breaks were again well contained and seemed to open up opportunities for Dinamo to take the game back to them. All of the boys played their part and played as a team. Nathan saved a powerful free kick, Harry was confident making some key tackles, Peter was busy feeding the ball forward, Callum was part of most of the attacks, Bradley worked hard slowing their attacks, Jack was wearing down their defence with his runs, Josh was constantly looking for shooting opportunities, Sean was working tirelessly controlling their attacks and getting forward and Ben’s pace was key in frustrating their runs into our half. Dinamo looked strong and in control and really put Spartak under pressure in the second half. In the final minute, and against the run of play, a Spartak cross into the box was unfortunately deflected by Dinamo into the net and it was 1-2 from the own goal.

An unlucky ending to the game? Judging by the smiles on the boys faces at the end, they knew that they had all played well and as a team. They had also enjoyed the game, as had everyone who had watched it. Well done lads and roll on next week!
