Sunday 27th September 2009 South Rushden Gladiators 4 Danesholme Vikings 0 Gladiators Conquer the Vikings
Team Our toughest game of the season so far pitted us up against the Vikings. We started the game brightly with one or two chances going astray but the Vikings defence cleared their lines and throughout the half managed to catch us offside on numerous occasions. So unlike previous weeks we were held 0 – 0 at half time. A stern team talk seemed to do the trick and within the first 10 minutes we managed the break through, when another superbly taken corner from Nathan was met firmly by the head of Matt who made no mistake. This then lifted the team and it wasn’t long before we created chance after chance. A master stroke came when I decided to move Aaron upfront and with his first kick put him directly on goal, he was unfortunate as this time the keeper made 2 great saves. It wasn’t long before he had other chances and this time made no mistake to fire home and gives him his first goal for the club. He soon doubled his tally when taking the ball around the goalkeeper to make the score 3 – 0. The final goal came on the final whistle when another great corner was partly cleared but Matt riffled the ball home for his second and the teams fourth. I think the Vikings took us a little by surprise today, so our work rate in training needs to be improved this week. Once our first goal went in, the confidence of the boys increased. So next week when the Vikings come to town in the league cup we must make sure that we hit the ground running. Ian
