Back to South End again this week for our league match against Wellingborough Town who proved to be worthy opponents and gave us a good fight. Some good football by the Gladiators was eventually rewarded half way through the half when Reagan pounced on an un-cleared ball and fired home from the edge of the box. He was unlucky a few minutes later when a well worked ball down the left saw a cross from Danny, finding Reagan who narrowly volleyed over.

Some great attacking play didn’t quite get the rewards the boys deserved and with some great dead ball deliveries from both Nathan and Oliver we couldn’t find the net. Although when the ball did get cleared by Wellingborough they seemed to clear well into the Gladiators half but the defence quartet of Alex, Matt, Ross and Josh didn’t allow any shots on goal to trouble Matt and Tom, providing the team with another clean sheet. Half time 1 – 0.

The second half was again evenly contested with Scott and Danny working hard down both flanks giving the team great options. We then got the second goal when Oliver was up ended and it was left to Nathan to fire towards goal. A great strike but he was unlucky when the ball hit the cross bar but lucky for the boys that Reagan was advancing towards goal to fire home 2 nil, giving him his 12th goal of the season.  The third goal soon followed when another great ball from Nathan found Matthew who headed in his 6th goal of the season. This was extra special as the coaches worked on this move yesterday at training. Well listened boys… The game finished 3 nil to keep us at the top of the league.

Keith Parker was asked to provide the man of the match award and he awarded it to Matthew Fensome for his domination in defence, his attacking abilities while going up for corners and free kicks and executing a well worked training routine with a firm header. Other noticeable performances this week came from Ross, Oliver, Nathan and Scott.

Our next home match should be back at the Community College following intensive ground work from the school and a few well trained firearms personnel to try and eradicate the rabbit problems.

Well done again boys, the battle was won and another 3 points. Next week we have our first away match of the season at Kettering Generals.
