South Rushden Jaguars vs Great Doddington White
Saturday 14th November 2009

Starting line-up

Goal-Keeper : Tom
Defence : Finley & Nathan
Midfield : Ollie & Josh Y.
Attack : Dan

The Jaguars put their opponents under pressure straight from the off with a great cross from Ollie to Dan as he moved towards goal. They kept up this pressure working the ball around the Doddington goal area and finding searching passes into the area. When forced to defend the Jaguars were solid, and a great clearance found Dan in space, but he was foiled by the combined efforts of their last defender and keeper. Josh supported well in midfield, and Nathan and Finley battled well in defence, dispossessing attackers promptly. A pass forwards found Dan, who did a delightful flick with his side foot that played the ball into an attacking position. Following this Doddington countered, and Finley blocked the passage of the ball at some discomfort to himself, but courageously played on. The Whites had a good chance with their player free in front of goal, but Tom ran to meet the ball and got there first, clearing it.

There then came some more great attacking moves from Dan and Ollie, with the opponents heading clear one of them. Ollie kicked a great corner into the area, which Dan found but then several defenders found him.
Carter was brought on for Josh. Ollie then found himself on the left, and a great shot saw the Jaguars score. Following the kick-off, Dan was bundled over as he headed for goal but with the Jags still in possession, a straight and level kick gave the Jaguars another goal.

Tom, frustrating the Great Doddington team, rapidly collected loose balls heading towards the Jaguars goal. Ollie, Dan and Carter kept up the attack with super passes to one another. A chance for the White team was thwarted when Tom came well out of his goal to narrow the angle, and the shot went wide. Another attack from the Jaguars, and a great cross from the right by Dan brought the first half to a close.

Doddington came out fighting in the second half pushing the Jags defence to their limit before Nathan cleared the ball out of his 18 yard box to a waiting Carter who deftly passed the ball across field to Dan on the left, who’s wonderful chip shot sent the ball rocketing into the top left for the goal of the match.

Great Doddington started to gain more and more possession pressing the Jaguars defence hard as Josh, Finley and Tom battled to keep a clean sheet but perseverance by the White’s forward found himself in space  and charging to towards goal, Tom caught on his line, just wasn’t quick enough as his opponent slotted the ball home.

Doddington continued to counter, which bought out a good save from Tom whilst another shot hit the upright, and a third finding the side netting. The Jags stunned, pulled up their socks and continued their hard work, moving the ball up the field with fluent passing. Carter having got himself into a good position received the ball as he stormed past his marker, taking his time he let loose whose a shot which sailed in low for the final goal of the match.

Every member of both teams worked hard to produce a very exciting and entertaining game.
