South Rushden Pumas v Higham Colts – 12.09.09

The sun was shining and there was hardly a cloud in the sky as the Pumas took to the pitch for their first match in the Weetabix league, perfect footballing conditions (Not sure how many times we will be able to say that…)

The match started at a furious pace, with both sides seeing plenty of the ball. The Pumas went close with a shot in the first few minutes. Higham started to show some good attacking football, matched only by some fantastic defending by the whole of the Pumas, well organised by Brett in goal.

Riley had a good run down the left wing, and the Pumas started to control midfield with some good tackling from Josh. Their pressure paid off near half time when Riley bundled the ball over the line from a corner! There were no more goals in the half, with some fantastic defending from Callum keeping Higham at bay.

When the match resumed Higham started to put the Pumas defence under serious pressure, with Savvi and Bradley working really hard to stop them attacking. Higham soon scored with a move down the left wing and a good shot. The Higham team sensed another goal and kept on attacking, and soon scored again, leaving the Pumas with it all to do in the last few minutes.

Straight from the re-start the Pumas started to dominate possession, with some good passing from Lucas. A mistake from one of the Higham defenders allowed Tom a shot and he finished superbly .

Higham now looked worried and the Pumas kept attacking, winning a throw in. Josh took a long throw in towards the goal, and in the scramble that followed Dylan was able to poke the ball home with only seconds left! The final whistle blew only a few moments after the restart and the Pumas shook hands with Higham.

A great performance from the boys, more of the same in the next match!
