South Rushden Pumas v Higham Ferrers Colts – 10.10.09
Another Saturday morning, another exciting game
as the pumas took on the colts for the second time this season. The
pumas were looking for a good performance, against a full strength Colts
team.
The Pumas kicked off and immediately put the Colts
under some pressure, with Callum having a positive early run with the
ball. The Colts started to work harder and get themselves into the game,
forcing the Pumas to defend, with Brett putting some good tackles in.
The game became quite scrappy and was played
mainly in the midfield areas, with neither side able to make a
breakthrough. The Colts had a couple of good attempts, both well saved
by Savvi in goal.
The Pumas started to pass the ball about and
created a couple of their own chances, and hit the side netting with one
attempt. The game remained scoreless until half time, giving the coaches
plenty to think about.
The second half started and the Colts caught the
Pumas napping, scoring quickly after a good move. They continued to pile
the pressure on and almost scored again forcing Tom into some great
defending.
Pumas started to come back into the game and from
out of nowhere Riley smashed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards
(probably), definitely goal of the season so far!
The Pumas lost concentration from the re-start and
the Colts took full advantage to score again. The Pumas responded with a
good run and shot from Brett, and a good effort from Dylan.
The Pumas won a corner, and in the goal mouth
scramble that followed they almost scored. The ball went back out to
Riley on the wing and his cross/shot found its way over the goalkeeper
to score again.
The game reached its closing stages and the Pumas
were passing the ball about with a new found confidence, whilst the
Colts still looked dangerous.
In the last few minutes the Colts forced Josh into
some great saves, before he was finally beaten with a shot that trickled
in off the post to the delight of the Higham players.
The game finished and the Pumas can hold their
heads high after some encouraging passing and intelligent play. More of
the same Boys!!
