South Rushden Pumas v South Rushden Jaguars – 26.09.09

A mid-morning start saw the first derby of the season for the Pumas, against the Jaguars. The Pumas were full of confidence after their good start to the season, and looking to do well against well known opposition.

A hard fought first half started with some good attacking from the Jaguars, well matched with solid defending from Savvi, Dylan and Tom – all working hard for the team.

Both teams toiled with little success, seeming to cancel each other out. Towards the end of the half Jaguars took control and had three good chances, all brilliantly saved by Brett in goal.

The end of the half brought no goals for either team, but lots of effort!

The Pumas changed things around at half time, with Josh replacing Brett in goal. They started the half well and some good skill from Carter set up an early attack.

Just as they seemed to find their feet in the game, Jaguars had a quick break down the left flank. Some great wing play ended with a cross that the striker could not fail to score, and found the net well.

The Pumas went on the attack and desperately tried to find a goal, and the game became very open. A mix up in the Jaguars defence almost cost them, and then the Pumas had to clear a shot off their own goal line, It was all happening.

As the full time whistle approached the Jaguars conceded a free kick and Riley stepped up to take it. He struck a superb shot that rebounded off the crossbar, inches from scoring!

Despite all the action there were no further goals and the full time whistle blew, allowing the players to shake hands and congratulate each other on a great match.

Next up – another derby as the Pumas take on the Panthers.
