South Rushden Pumas v Volta F.C Hurricanes –
17.10.09
The Pumas took on the Hurricanes for the first
time this season, keen to keep the positive football going, and maybe
add a few more goals!
Straight from the kick-off the Hurricanes came at
the Pumas like… well like a hurricane! (Sorry). A quick shot just missed
the goal, and a good block from Tom stopped another attack, before
Callum had to make a great save.
Before the Pumas even got into the game, they had
conceded twice. Both were good goals from the Hurricanes who looked
hungry to score more. A strong run from Brett relieved the pressure
momentarily before the Hurricanes attacked again, with Bradley defending
and battling to break it up where possible.
The Pumas could not hold out and the Hurricanes
managed to score twice more before the Pumas had their first shot of the
match – a shot from Brett well saved by the keeper. Half time and lots
to think about…
The second half started with the Pumas working
hard to get back into the game, Josh went close to a goal with a good
run and shot that went agonizingly wide.
The Pumas seemed to be passing the ball around
well and gaining confidence, looking the most likely to score. A quick
attack by the Hurricanes ended that as the ball found the back of the
Pumas net and straight from the restart they scored again, completely
demoralising the Pumas.
The Pumas never gave up fighting and kept working
hard, the Hurricanes scored for a final time from a corner. The hard
work paid off in the last few minutes as the Pumas finally found their
confidence and the Hurricanes gave away a penalty!
Riley stepped up to take it and smashed it home
from the spot. Straight from the restart the Pumas went on the attack
again and Riley hit the back of the net again just before the final
whistle.
The Pumas were undone today by a good footballing
team, and learned a few lessons about defending. They kept their heads
up though and the team have a great spirit that will come in handily as
they progress. Come on the Pumas!!
