South Rushden Rhinos V Volta F.C (24/10/09) The weather played its part and both teams struggled initially to adapt to the wet and slippery conditions with chances being few and far between at both ends. The Rhinos looked solid throughout and although they only scored the one goal they will be just as pleased with the defensive display and the clean sheet. Logan deputised in goal and on the couple of occasions when he was called into action was on hand to keep Volta at bay. With the midfield congested at times the Rhinos were forced to get the ball wide and this is where they carved out their best chances. Connor, Lewis and Michael all came close to breaking the deadlock, and with Harry Richardson breaking up play in midfield, Scott and Phillip working the flanks and Liam his usual solid self at the back it was a good team performance from everyone involved. As the game drew to a close and with the Rhinos now pushing for the winner they did have to suffer a late scare as Volta hit them on the counter attack but were unable to capitalise before Harry Stoner took advantage of a misplaced goal kick and fired into the bottom left hand corner from distance. What this meant to all the players was there
for everyone to see and as Harry turned to celebrate was promptly mobbed
by all his relieved team mates.
