South Rushden Rhinos V Whitworths F.C (17/10/09)

SQUAD:
Michael Childs, Phillip Hughes, Liam Pilcher, William Turner, Scott Simms, Connor Love, Logan Fisher, Harry Stoner, Harry Richardson, Lewis Groves.

Yet another thrilling encounter for the Rhinos with exciting, fast paced and end to end football becoming the norm over the last few weeks. So it was no surprise that both sets of supporters were treated to another goal fest in what ended a 9 goal thriller.

The Rhinos can count themselves incredibly unlucky as this was a match that neither team deserved anything less than a win but it was Whitworths who snatched a winner right at the death just as both teams were settling for a 4-4 draw.

The Rhinos came out like a steam train and within two minutes were ahead, an impressive team move saw Connors cross from the right neatly finished off by Harry Stoner but before the first half was over Whitworths had replied with two great strikes and a penalty. The second half was much like the first half with both teams passing well and the game being played at an extremely fast pace but it was the Rhinos creating the better chances and it wasn’t long before the pressure paid off and Harry scored his second from close range. Five minutes later the Rhinos were awarded a penalty after a long throw into the box was handballed, Harry Stoner calmly swept home the penalty to claim his hat-trick and bring the Rhinos back on level terms. The celebrations were short lived though and Whitworths struck a fourth on the counter attack as the Rhinos pressed for a winner but the match was far from over and after some confusion in the Whitworths defence William Turner pulled the match back to level terms yet again with his first goal of the season. Both teams would probably have been happy with the final whistle at this point but with seconds remaining the Rhinos were dealt a cruel blow when Whitworths snatched the winner.

Any one of the players could of picked up the Man Of The Match Award after this display, one in which everybody had given it their all but in the end Lewis Groves deservedly took the honours for his fine performance in goal.
