Spartak 2 Wellingborough Town 0

Today saw a new formation in the Spartak team with Tony and Tim opting for two at the back and four across in midfield.

WT came into the game on a rich vein of form as they had only lost one game so far this season and that was when they had they only had 5 players!

The starting line up for Spartak was Lewis, Evan, Connor, Joe, Liam, Harry and Sam. From the kick off the Spartak boys were straight in and up for the game. Within minutes WT attacked, but it was swept up at the back and quickly switched to a Spartak attack. Within seconds Joe had a shot on goal, but it went just wide. Then from the WT goal kick Spartak attacked this time Evan had pushed for forward and his cross\shot went wide. Spartak continued to attack which saw WT getting frustrated and bringing Liam down on the edge of the box. He took the free kick but it was blocked and cleared.

Shortly after Spartak attack and WT have a goal kick. From the goal kick Sam and Harry combine and attack, but the play breaks down and WT quickly attack. No worries at the back as Connor and Evan close down the attack quickly and Evan pushes forward with the ball as Connor covers. From this attack the ball is passed to Joe and he coolly slots the ball into the WT net to make it a well deserved 1-0.

Straight from the kick off Sam intercepts and the boys remember the 'home' training session from Saturday training and Sam, Harry, Liam and Joe pass the ball between themselves and Joe has a shot, but it saved by the keeper. From the goal kick Joe intercepts runs it into the box 1 on 1 with the keeper, but the WT keeper saves excellently to deny Spartak a 2nd goal.

The boys battle hard to force a corner. Joe takes the corner and finds Harry on the back post 1 yard out and man of the match, Harry blasts it in, to make it 2-0. Spartak are ruling the game.

The boys play some lovely passing moves and soon Harry puts Liam through, but the shot goes just wide. From the goal kick WT attack and shoot from range, but Lewis who had has almost nothing to do in the first half makes a great save and thumps the ball up the pitch. With that the whistle blows for half time. The score 2-0.

The changes at Half time were James and Kyle on and Evan and Sam off. From the WT ‘kick off’ Spartak are at them and soon have possession, Harry and James combine and James’s shot goes wide.   Liam goes on a run, down the right but the ball goes out for a corner.

Shortly after Harry is injured and Evan comes on. Liam attacks again and Spartak get a corner. The corner is taken and is passed to Joe who shoots just wide.

From the next two attacks Evan shoots wide and Joe hits the post. The boys pass the ball beautifully around the pitch, but WT intercept and attack they have a shot from range, but it goes wide. WT press again, but Connor is resolute at the back and sweeps up the loose ball and clears the ball from the danger area. James and Kyle battle in midfield and get the ball to Joe, but his shot is saved.

At the death WT attack and again Lewis is superb and makes a great save.

A great result the boys did very well up against an in form team. The result reflects the hard work the boys put in and played lovely football.
